Wye Valley Air Conditioning

Service Overview

What an air conditioning service involves

An air conditioning service is a planned check and clean of your indoor and outdoor units. We clean or replace filters, clean coils and fans, clear the condensate drain, check refrigerant performance, test electrical connections and controls, and confirm the system heats and cools as it should.

Servicing is for anyone who owns an air conditioning system, whether it is one split unit in a bedroom or several units across an office, shop, restaurant or gym. We service systems across Hereford and Herefordshire for domestic and commercial customers.

We recommend a yearly service for all systems. A yearly servicing agreement is offered with every installation we carry out. Many customers book their service in spring so the system is ready before the summer, but any time of year works.

Professional servicing matters because the parts that affect performance, such as the refrigerant (cooling gas) pipes and the electrics, should only be handled by trained engineers. We are F-Gas and REFCOM registered, so your system is checked safely and legally.

Why It Matters

What happens when servicing is skipped

Air conditioning units pull in a lot of air every day. Over time, dust, pollen and grime build up on filters and coils. Airflow drops, the unit has to work harder, and your electricity bill rises while cooling and heating power falls.

Blocked condensate drains are one of the most common faults we see on unserviced systems. When the drain clogs, water backs up and can drip from the indoor unit onto walls, floors and furniture. Dirty coils and drain trays can also produce musty smells in the room.

Small issues such as a worn electrical connection or a slow refrigerant leak are easy to spot during a service. Left alone, they can lead to a full breakdown, often in the middle of a heatwave when you need the system most, and a repair that costs far more than a yearly visit.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Waiting until the system stops working before calling an engineer
  • Only cleaning the filters and assuming that counts as a service
  • Using someone who is not F-Gas registered to check refrigerant
  • Ignoring early signs such as smells, drips or weaker airflow
  • Letting several years pass between services

Our Process

How it works, step by step

  1. 1

    Booking

Call or send the form and we'll arrange a visit during our working hours, Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm or Saturday 8am to 12pm.

  2. 2

    Inspection

We check the indoor and outdoor units, controls, pipework insulation and electrical connections.

  3. 3

    Clean

Filters, coils, fans and the condensate drain are cleaned so air and water flow freely.

  4. 4

    Performance check

We test refrigerant performance and confirm the system reaches the right temperatures in heating and cooling modes.

  5. 5

    Report

We explain what we found, fix anything minor on the spot where possible and advise if any further work is needed.

In Detail

Servicing for different systems and premises

Every system type and setting needs slightly different attention. Here is what we look at depending on your equipment.

Split and multi-split systems

For wall-mounted split and multi-split units, we focus on filters, the indoor coil and blower wheel, the drain tray and pump if fitted, and the outdoor unit's coil and fan. On multi-split systems we check each indoor unit individually.

Ducted systems

Ducted systems hide the indoor unit in a ceiling void, so filters and drains are easy to forget. We access the unit, clean the filter and coil, check the drain and inspect grilles and ductwork connections for airflow problems.

Commercial servicing

Offices, shops, bars, restaurants, gyms, medical premises and industrial units often run their systems for long hours. Kitchens and gyms add grease and humidity. We can plan servicing around your opening hours and provide RAMS for commercial sites.

Cellar cooling servicing

Cellar cooling units work hard year-round to keep stock at the right temperature. A yearly service checks the indoor and outdoor units, the drain and the controls so your cellar stays cool through busy periods.

Brands we service

We are an accredited installer for Panasonic, Samsung, LG and Mitsubishi, and we understand the maintenance needs of these leading brands.

Why yearly, not every few years

Dirt build-up and wear happen steadily. A yearly visit catches problems while they are small and keeps efficiency close to how it was on the day the system was installed.
